Mayday Comics is a yearlong cartoon experiment consisting of at least one original cartoon every day from May 1, 2007 to May 1, 2008. It has been a long time since I've drawn, let alone for the "internet", so if you're tuning in early on, some of the jokes and drawings are going to be a little rough. Please - please, please - don't give up on me; if you do, you'll miss out on the really clever strip I'm planning for October 11th and kick yourself in the face on October 12th when it gets emailed to you like a thousand of your friends. By all rights, you will be the one should have been the one to send that link. You will be should have been the link sender.

3: Staring Contest Comics

Hello, Friend.

Hey there. I am starting a daily comic series tomorrow, May First.

I'll have more information in my actual inaugural post , but here's the general idea: for the next 365 days, I will try to publish one funny, funny cartoon per day. This will almost certainly prove impossible, but hopefully by trying I'll have 300+ cartoons/comic strips/ what have you done by this time next year, several of which will be worth reading.

The idea for the Mayday Comic project came to me from two sources: my heart, and my soul.

omg lol j/k.

Source One: Julie Powell's blog/immensely popular book, Julie and Julia, which chronicled her attempt to cook all 536 recipes from Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking (no link for you, J-Child) in 365 days.

Source Two is the advice of a new friend of mine who, after hearing I did comic strips for my college paper, suggested I put some cartoons up as sort of an online resume to help spice up my actual, non-online resume. I don't, sadly enough, have many of the originals of my college comic strip, (and, in any case, they were sort of terrible) so I figured I'd whip up some new cartoons and put them up.

Even though I'm going to be updating as frequently as possible (I'll try to update as close to midnight the night before whenever possible) for a year, I don't expect people to navigate to this page every day to check out the wacky adventures of my multi-dimensionally two-dimensional characters. With that in mind, I'm going to keep the chatter (here is a comic strip and as a bonus, here is a pseudonym-laced account of my disastrous personal life!) down to a minimum. Hopefully this will make it easier to catch up on a lot of strips at once simply by scrolling down the page. This also might make it worthwhile to add this comic strip, should you like it, to your RSS reader (you won't have to worry about getting a bunch of junk text you're not interested in clogging up your reader page).

Anyway, I hope those of you who stumble across this blog or are coerced by me to look at it occasionally enjoy my strips. I'm anticipating a rough first month, as it's been forever since I've done any 'tooning (as our subt'l art is known in the haphazardly walled alleyways we 'toonists meet in to exchange inky high fives and war stories). But after a rough start, we can all expect eleven months of daily line art orgasms.

Orgasms!
